ALAMOSA, Colo. - Facing rival Adams State University, Western State Colorado University fell behind 1-0 in the first half. However, the Mountaineers mounted a second half comeback and defeated the Grizzlies 2-1 on the road.
Western (5-5-1, 3-4 RMAC) found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard after ASU (4-3-3, 2-3-1 RMAC) found the back of the net in the 34th minute of the first half. Lacey Daniel scored the first goal of the game for ASU.
Dominating for most of the game, the Mountaineers broke through in the second half. Forward
Jennifer Kahle (So., Colorado Springs, Colorado) scored the game tying goal just five minutes into the second half. It was Kahle's fourth goal of the season.
With the game tied, Western continued pressuring the Grizzlies defense. Kahle finally broke through, scoring her second goal of the match, and the game winner in the 78th minute. Kahle is tied for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference lead in goals scored with five. Assisting Kahle on the goal was center midfielder
Ingrid Alvarez (Fr., Aurora, Colorado), earning her third point of the season.
Western's defense constrained ASU to only three shots on net during the game, and out-shot ASU 10-7 in the match.
Coming off the bench, Kahle led the match in shots on net with two and both
Elyza Montano (Sr., El Sobrante, California) and Kahle led the match with three shots.
Western women's soccer will return home for a match against the RMAC's newest member, Westminster College on Friday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. The Mountaineers are tied with Westminster for sixth place in the RMAC standings.
