WSOC | Orediggers outlast Mountaineers

GOLDEN, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's soccer team fell victim to Colorado School of Mines tonight in a 1-0 match in Golden. The Mountaineers look for redemption Sunday when they take on the Cougars of Colorado Christian University Sunday afternoon.

Defense was the key to the Orediggers success, holding the Mountaineer to only six shots, three of which were shots on goal. Mines put up 16 shots, including the game-winning goal in the 55th minute by Haley Cole.

Meghan Jedrzejewski had seven saves in the match, earning her first start in two games.

The match was a physical one, with Western State being penalized harshly by the referees. Three Mountaineers drew yellow cards, Izzy Engeman, Samantha Braun and Breanna Vega, all in the second half.

With two conference games remaining, Western State is two points out of conference tournament contention. The Mountaineers return home next weekend for their final conference match, a rematch against Adams State, Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
