Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's soccer team tied Colorado Christian in a scoreless double overtime match Sunday afternoon in Lakewood. With the tie, the Mountaineers are on the outside looking in for conference playoff contention. Even with a victory over Adams State University next Friday, the Mountaineers will need help to jump into the final playoff position.
The match ended up being a defensive one, with only five total shots on goal. Western's
Tanisha Anderson was the lone student-athlete with two shots on goal. The Mountaineers put on the most pressure, taking 19 shots with four on goal.
Mountaineers (6-7-3, 3-5-2 RMAC) defense held the winless Cougars (0-14-3, 0-10-1 RMAC) to only eight shots, but gave up the Cougars first conference tie.
Western State closes out its conference season with a conference rematch against Adams State Friday at 2:30 p.m. The Mountaineers will host Fort Lewis College in the final match of the season Sunday afternoon. The match will celebrate seven seniors that were on the inaugural team in 2012. This is the first women's soccer senior class is Mountaineer history.
