GUNNISON, Colo. - In the annual Pink Game, Western State Colorado University out-shot UC-Colorado Springs 23-12. However, the Mountain Lions were able to sneak one of their shots into the net and won the non-conference match 1-0.
Western (6-6-2, 3-4-1 RMAC) dominated UC-Colorado Springs (9-3-2, 5-2-2 RMAC) for much of the match. The Mountaineers continually put pressure on the Mountain Lions. Western was better in nearly every statistical category besides the final score.
In the first half, Western out-shot UC-Colorado Springs 9-to-5. In the second half, the Mountaineers continued their dominance, out-shooting their opponents 14-7.
The Mountain Lions scored the game winning goal in the 65th minute. Mandy Timmermeyer scored the only goal of the match from 12-yards out.
Western will return to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next Friday at the Colorado School of Mines on Friday. The Mountaineers are currently tied for sixth place in the RMAC standing with three RMAC matches remaining.
