GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's volleyball team fell victim to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe Colorado Mesa University Saturday evening in Grand Junction. The Mountaineers fell in four sets (25-17, 25-15, 22-25, 25-10), but remain in eighth place in the conference. Western State trails Colorado Christian by half a game for seventh place, while Chadron State and Black Hills State trail Western State by half a game.
The Mountaineers (6-13, 4-5 RMAC) as a team struggled to find offense in the match against one of the top-ranked defenses in the RMAC. The Mavericks (9-8, 7-2 RMAC) put up nine solo blocks, holding the Mountaineers to a .028 hitting percentage.
Jordan Eatwell led all Mountaineers with nine kills.
Tori Gaherty added in seven, while
Avery Burkholder had six. Western State split the setter duties, with
Tepora Su'a with 14 assists and
Allison Walker with 13.
Amanda Maestas eclipsed the 20 dig mark for the eighth time this season to lead the Mountaineers.
Allison Walker chipped in a dozen.
The Mountaineers are back home Friday, Oct. 16, against Black Hills State University at 7 p.m. Western State plays South Dakota School of Mines the next day at 7 p.m.
