COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Despite facing each other 37 prior times, Friday night was the first game between Western State Colorado University women's basketball and UC-Colorado Springs played at the Colorado Springs City Auditorium. Western took part in UCCS' Third Annual Downtown Classic Friday, but were unable to come away with a victory, losing to the Mountain Lions 58-73.

After a back-and-forth first 10 minutes of the game, UCCS (12-2, 7-1 RMAC) found their stride and extended the lead to 10 points by the break.
The second half of play saw the Mountaineer offense begin to click. Western scored over thirty points in the second half for the first time since Dec. 21 against Fort Lewis College.
However, the Mountain Lion offense also surged forward, scoring five more second half points than the Mountaineers.
Sam Patterson led UCCS in scoring with 12 points.
The Mountaineers will look to get a victory Saturday night in Pueblo, Colorado against CSU-Pueblo at 5:30 p.m. in Massari Arena.
