PUEBLO, Colo. - Western State Colorado University women's basketball face two of the top Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams over the weekend. On Saturday, the Mountaineers traveled to CSU-Pueblo to face the ThunderWolves. Unfortunately for Western, the game transpired in favor of CSU-Pueblo, as the Mountaineer lost 34-66.
Western (4-10, 3-7 RMAC) played CSU-Pueblo (8-5, 6-3 RMAC) close in the first half and trailed by five with 8:48 left before halftime. The ThunderWolves then went on a 14-3 run to end the half, taking a 30-14 lead into the break.
The second half saw the Mountaineer offense pick up the pace. However, CSU-Pueblo's offense also opened up and outscored Western 36-20 in the second stanza.
CSU-Pueblo led from start to finish on Saturday.
Taylor Mayes (Jr., Hutchinson, Kansas) led the Mountaineers in scoring with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field.
CSU-Pueblo's Katie Nehf led all players in scoring with 13 points.
Western will continue the road trip for one more game next Saturday against western slope rival Colorado Mesa University at 5:30 p.m. in Brownson Arena.
