GUNNISON, Colo. - For the first time this season, Western State Colorado University women's basketball didn't come away with a win at home. Colorado Christian University upset the Mountaineers at home, defeating Western 80-49.
Only one point separated Western (4-8, 3-5 RMAC) and CCU (4-9, 4-3 RMAC) after the first 5:05. The Cougars then went on a 25-4 run over the next 8:57 to take a 35-13 lead.
The Cougars' run was sparked by three-point shooting. CCU made 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) from beyond the arc in the first half. All seven three-pointers were made by Taylor Torres and Alyssa Fressle.
The Mountaineers were unable to cut into the CCU lead in the second half and fell 80-49 for their first loss at home.
Western's
Jade McIntosh (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado) led the team in scoring with 11 points.
CCU's Claire Paxton led the game in scoring with 19 points.
