GUNNISON, Colo. - Western State Colorado University women's basketball extended their home unbeaten streak to three games on Friday. Three Mountaineers scored in double figures as Western defeated Colorado School of Mines 55-44.
Western (4-7, 3-4 RMAC) used an up-tempo defense to help defeat CSM (6-6, 1-5 RMAC) Friday night. The Mountaineers forced 18 Oredigger turnovers, turning them into 18 points.
Leading the charge for Western was
Taylor Long (Fr., Moreno Valley, California). Long scored a game high 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds, coming off the bench. Teammate
Ajai Ford (Jr., Los Angeles, California) also contributed key minutes coming off the bench. Ford scored 14 points in 22 minutes.
A back and forth affair for most of the game, Western trailed CSM by five points with just 6:16 remaining. The Mountaineers then went on a 19-4 run to end the game, taking a 55-44 win.
Senior
Jade McIntosh (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado) helped lead the late Western surge. McIntosh scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half.
The Mountaineers will try and keep the home win streak alive on Saturday when Western hosts Colorado Christian University at 5:30 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
