SPEARFISH, S.D. - Western State Colorado University women's basketball opened the 2014-15 conference season on Friday. The Mountaineers travelled to Spearfish, South Dakota for their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game. Western fell to the Yellow Jackets 49-61.
Western (1-4, 0-1 RMAC) got behind early and trailed BHSU (2-2, 1-0 RMAC) by 17 points, 26-9 with 5:24 remaining in the first half. The Mountaineers found their stride late in the first half and cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 11 points at the half.
In the second half, the Mountaineer offense came alive, scoring 31 points and shooting 41.7 percent from the field (10-of-24). However, Western wasn't able to cut into the BHSU lead and the Mountaineers fell 49-61.
Jade McIntosh (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado) and
Taylor Long (Fr., Moreno Valley, California) led the Mountaineers in scoring with seven points each. On Friday, 11 Western players reached the scoring column.
McIntosh led the game in rebounding, grabbing 10 rebounds.
BSHU's Chelsey Biegler led the game in scoring with 18 points.
