DURANGO, Colo. - It was a tale of two halves for Western State Colorado University women's basketball Sunday evening. After dominating the first half of play, the Mountaineers were unable to thwart Fort Lewis College's comeback in the second half. The Skyhawks came away with a 74-67 win over Western on FLC's home floor.
Western (3-7, 2-4 RMAC) led by as many as 14 points in Sunday's game. However, defensive pressure by the Skyhawks in the second half led to 27 points off turnovers for Fort Lewis. This proved to be the difference in the game as FLC (5-3, 2-3 RMAC) came back to take the lead with 10:20 remaining in the game.
Sunday's Mountaineer offensive attack was spurred on by
Jade McIntosh (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado). McIntosh scored a season high 28 points and has scored 20 or more points in the past three-of-four games.
Despite losing the game, Western out rebounded the Skyhawks 39-32 and made 22-of-24 free throws (91.7 percent).
The only other Mountaineer to score in double figures was
Harlie Williams (So., Norwood, Colorado) who contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
Sunday's game against FLC was the second consecutive game Western allowed opponents 51 points in the second half after leading at halftime.
Western will have a short break over Christmas before their next game. The Mountaineers will host Colorado School of Mines on Jan. 2 and Colorado Christian University on Jan. 3. Both games are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
