GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - After trailing by as many 15 points against Texas A&M International University, the Western State Colorado University men's basketball team made a miraculous comeback in the second half. However, the Dustdevils would come out ahead, defeating Western 70-67.
Western (1-2, 0-0 RMAC) got behind early and trailed TAMIU (3-2, 0-0 LSC) by 15 points at the 8:30 mark of the first half. The Mountaineers were able to cut the lead to 10 points by halftime.
The Mountaineers continued to pressure the Dustdevils and finally made progress midway through the second half. Down 11 with 11:43 remaining, Western went on an 18-4 run to take a three point lead at the 6:20 mark.
TAMIU regained control of the game, but with 11 seconds remaining, Western's
Keenan Prochazka (Jr., Moose Pass, Alaska) knocked down a three-pointer to pull within one point.
The Dustdevils made both their free throws on the following possession to take the lead and the win, 70-67.
Mason Biddle (Sr., Riverside, California) led the game in scoring with 19 points. Teammate
Danny Hopkins (Jr., Riverside, California) led game in rebounds with 10.
The only other Mountaineer to score in double figures was
Devin Kastrup (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado) who added 10 points.
Western will face Angelo State University in their final game of the Colorado Mesa Classic tomorrow. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in Brownson Arena.
