GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - In a midweek matchup, Western State Colorado University women's soccer played Colorado Mesa University to a scoreless draw. The Mountaineers earned their fifth draw of the season and second against the Mavericks.
Earning one point with a draw against CMU, Western (6-4-5, 3-4-4 RMAC) sits two points out of the final Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoff spot heading into the weekend.
The Mountaineers and CMU (0-11-4, 0-8-3 RMAC) played a tight locked match Wednesday night in Grand Junction. Both teams had opportunities to score, but neither was able to capitalize or sustain control of the match.
The Mavericks out shot Western 14-9. However, the Mountaineers put more shots on net, 3-2.
Wednesday was the second straight shutout for the Mountaineer defense. In 15 matches, Western has only allowed a total of nine goals.
Western has three more matches this season. The Mountaineers continue the season on Sunday against the Colorado School of Mines.
