GUNNISON, Colo. - A late second half surge gave Western State Colorado University a goal, however the UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions survived the comeback and took a 2-1 victory.
Western (5-4-4, 2-4-3 RMAC) was unable to gain much control of the match in the first half. Â UC-Colorado Springs (6-6, 5-4 RMAC) took advantage on the road and scored a 26th minute goal to open the scoring.
The Mountain Lions outshot the Mountaineers 10-6 in the first half.
The Mountaineers regained control in the second half as the Mountain Lions attempted to keep Western at bay. Â However, in the 66th minute, UC-Colorado Springs caught a break and scored their second goal of the match.
Down 2-0 in the second half, Western picked up the frantic pace, eventually breaking through for an 83rd minute goal by
Nicole Giebler (Fr., Aurora, Colorado). Â It would prove to be too little too late for Western, as UC-Colorado Springs earned their sixth win of the season.
The Mountaineers outshot the Mountain Lions 11-6 in the second half.

The Mountaineers will play their final home match of the season Sunday at 1 p.m. against Colorado Christian University.
