Shane Zimmerman begins his first season coaching for the Mountaineers in 2017. Zimmerman will help coach Western’s defensive backs.
Zimmerman spent the previous 19 years as a high school head coach in the state of Colorado.
Most recently Zimmerman coached Gunnison High School from 2015-2016, earning a playoff appearance in his first season.
In total, Zimmerman has a 107-70 record as a high school head coach, helped 12 players earn All-State honors, 50 players earn all-conference honors and his teams have made 10 playoff appearances.
Prior to Gunnison, Zimmerman coached at Simla High School from 2000-15 and Deer Trail High School from 1998-2000.
Zimmerman has also coached at college summer camps for 13 years.
Zimmerman holds a degree in secondary education from Chadron State College, where he played football and earned RMAC All-Academic honors.
