Juan "Johnny" Barriga begins his first season for the Mountaineers in 2015. Barriga will assist the offensive with his primary responsibilities coaching Western's tight ends.
Barriga joins the Western staff after a stint as a student assistant offensive line coach and equipment manager at Lincoln University from 2011-15. During that time Barriga was responsible for communicating with the offensive staff from the press box on game day, organized and maintained football equipment, analyzed film, assisted in the scouting process, and coordinated scout teams.
Barriga started for Lincoln as a true freshman on the offensive line, but was unable to continue playing during his sophomore season due to injury.
A native of El Paso, Texas, Barriga earned a degree in elementary education from Lincoln University in 2015.
