Bree Hare begins her fourth year with Western Colorado Athletics after being hired during the summer of 2019. Hare has recently moved into the role of the Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator.
Hare is a member of the Athletics Department’s Leadership Team, previously serving as the Athletics Business Manager and Assistant Athletics Director of Business Operations. As an Assistant Athletics Director, Hare oversaw athletic budgets and scholarships, served as the sport supervisor for men’s wrestling, esports, and cheer, submitted grant proposals, and was the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) Advisor.
In her time at Western, Hare assisted with the management of the Mountaineer Athletic Association and special events/fundraising efforts. She was heavily involved with the Mountaineer Athletic Association and helped lead the highest grossing MAA Crab & Steak Feed and MAA Golf Tournament events in Western history. In another fundraising effort, Hare started the Junior Mountaineers Summer Camp program that also brought youth ages 5-12 and their families to the Western Athletics Department during the summer months.
Hare comes to Western after spending three years in Grand Junction, two years spent as the Education Director for the EUREKA! Science Museum and one year as the Athletics Supervisor for the City of Fruita. In these roles, she oversaw youth and adult sports programs, developed and implemented over 100 summer camps, and secured grant funding to support the addition of an interactive, STEAM-based playground at EUREKA! and afterschool physical activity-based science programs at five schools.
Prior to living in Grand Junction, Hare worked for the Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department for 12 years. Here, she oversaw the Recreation Department Programs Division consisting of Youth Programs, Sports & Special Events, Tennis, Nordic, Ice Arena Programs and Outdoor Recreation Programs. In the Recreation Programs Manager role, Bree managed expense and revenue budgets, oversaw approximately 90 staff members and was a leader within the Recreation Department.
Originally from Northern Wisconsin, Hare has a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology: Exercise Management from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Additionally, she was an ice hockey player for the UWEC Blugolds NCAA Division III Women’s Hockey Team. Hare has a master’s in physical education with an Outdoor Education emphasis from the University of Northern Colorado as well as a K-12 PE teaching license.
Hare and her husband, Jon, are looking forward to raising their two sons (Emmett & Austen) in a small, mountain community and are thrilled to call Gunnison their hometown.
