Dr. Brian Coppess is in his sixth season as a volunteer assistant with the Western Colorado University wrestling program for the 2022-23 season.
Along with helping coach on the mat, Dr. Coppess teaches classes at Western to prospective principals in Colorado. Prior to joining the Mountaineers, Dr. Coppess spent his entire career in Iowa as a teacher, an athletic administrator, an assistant principal and most recently Principal at Urbandale High School in Urbandale, Iowa (a suburb of Des Moines).
Dr. Coppess graduated from Simpson College with an English degree, completed his Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration at Iowa State University and was soon certified to be a principal through a licensure program at Drake University. A few years later he earned a Doctorate’s degree in Education Administration and became certified to be a superintendent in Iowa at the University of Northern Iowa.
