Joshua Pooler joined the Mountaineer women’s soccer program as an assistant in the spring of 2025.
Pooler arrived in Gunnison after spending the previous season working with both the men’s and women’s goalkeepers at Presbyterian (N.C.) College, an NCAA Division I member of the Big South Conference.
While at Presbyterian, Pooler was part of the staff that helped the women’s program achieve their first winning season in 20 years, win their first ever Division I playoff game, and their starting keeper broke two program records. Pooler was also part of the men’s staff that helped the program make a second-round playoff run, and their starting keeper improved in every statistical category from the previous season.
Prior to joining the Blue Hose staff, Pooler served as the goalkeeper coach at Southwest Mississippi Community College. During his tenure with the Bears, the starting keeper broke four school records, tied a fifth, and was recognized as the national and conference keeper of the week several times.
Before his journey to SMCC, Pooler served as the Interim Head Coach of both the men’s and women’s programs at Southeastern Community College in Iowa. Prior to stepping into the interim role, he had served as the first assistant and goalkeeper coach.
During his time at SCC, the men’s program was ranked ninth in the nation and made an appearance at the national tournament. Pooler was an integral part in helping the Blackhawks concede only five goals total during conference, playoff, and national tournament play. The women’s team was able to post its best conference record in program history during his time there.
Prior to his departure, he was able to help transfer one player to the professional league in Japan, four players to DI programs, and two players earned roster spots on their respective nation’s senior teams.
Along with his collegiate coaching experience, Pooler has worked with Challenger Sports, where he served as a head coach and clinic coordinator for the youth soccer programs in Harvard, Mass. He also has experience working with special education soccer programs both at the middle school and high school levels.
Pooler, a Massachusetts native, attended Lyndon State (Vt.) College where he earned his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. He obtained his master’s in education from Eastern Nazarene (Mass.) College in 2021.
Pooler holds a USC Goalkeeper 3 Diploma, a USSF “D” License, and an ESL Endorsement.
