Adam Jacobson was announced as the Mountaineer head women's basketball coach on May 16, 2022.
Jacobson spent the past two seasons as the women's head coach at North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) in Wahpeton, N.D. The Wildcats posted an overall record of 44-12 over his two seasons of leadership, including a 34-9 mark in Mon-Dak Athletic Conference action.
NDSCS was the 2021-22 regular-season Mon-Dak champion with a 20-1 league mark. In the postseason it advanced through Region XIII playoffs, winning the region championship followed by capturing the North Central District Championship. The postseason run was finally halted in the first round of the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, ending the 2021-22 campaign with a 30-3 overall record.
The Mon-Dak, Region XIII and North Central District all named Jacobson their 2022 Coach of the Year, joining NDSCS point guard Ivane Tensaie – third-team NJCAA All-American, Region XIII and Mon-Dak player of the year – with postseason honors.
Prior to his stay at NDSCS, Jacobson accumulated 11 years as an assistant coach with stints at University of Mary (2018-20 and 2012-14), University of N.D. (2014-18), Gillette College (Wyo.) (2011-12), University of Jamestown (N.D.) (2008-09, men's assistant), Augustana (S.D.) University (2007-08, men's graduate assistant), and Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College (2006-07, men's assistant).
Jacobson's coaching career accomplishments include:
- national tournament appearances at NDSCS (1), Univ. of N.D. (3), Augustana (1)
- conference championship titles in the Mon-Dak (2022, NDSCS) and Big Sky (2017, Univ. of N.D.)
- 17 all-conference players (recruited or developed)
The program that Jacobson takes over at Western has made four consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference postseason tournaments and appeared in the 2020 and 2021 NCAA Division II national tournaments for the first time in program history.
