Lee Wood begins his fifth season as an assistant coach for the men's and women's cross country and track programs at Western Colorado University this 2021-22 season.
Coach Wood ran for Missouri Southern in the late 90s and has coached cross country/track & field for 14 years. He coached on the 7A high school level for four years at Rogers High School and seven years at Rogers Heritage High School in Arkansas. There, he coached a total of seven state championship teams including a rare triple crown team championship in 2007-08. Throughout his high school coaching career, Wood coached over 40 runners who went on to run on the collegiate level.
Â
In 2015, Wood started the Ecclesia College cross country and track and field programs from the ground up, where he coached two individual cross country national qualifiers in the NCCAA division.
Â
Wood made the move to Gunnison in July 2017. In September 2017, he took an assistant coaching position at Western.
Â
While Coach Wood focuses more on coaching than his own running, Wood recently competed in the 2015 USATF Masters in the 800m/1500m where he won two individual national championship titles.
Â
Wood was a 2004 Graduate from University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology K-12 and later earned a master's degree in education in 2006.
