GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Western Colorado's
Amayah Warren and
Kayla Knifong posted career-best times in an individual event Saturday at Day 2 of the Intermountain Shootout, hosted by Colorado Mesa University at its El Pomar Natatorium.
Swimming against NCAA Division I teams from Brigham Young University, University of Utah, and Utah Tech, as well as the DII powerhouse Mavericks, Warren touched in a lifetime best time of 58.55 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly to place 13th overall in the event.
One event later, Knifong posted her career best in the 200 breaststroke, placing 13th with a time of 2 minutes, 27.23 seconds. Earning her collegiate best in the same race was
Demi Blaylock who finished 15th in 2:28.32, tying with teammate
Mia Brown whose time was less than a half second off her all-time best.
The second day of the Shootout began with the Mountaineer foursome of
Sarah Krise,
Emma Linscombe,
Jaylen Lembas and
Anna Jorstad teaming up for a ninth-place finish in the opening event, the 200 medley relay, combining for a final time of 1:48.95.
Freshman
Maggie Hansel added a top-16 finish in the initial individual event, placing 13th in the 500 free, touching in 5:12.35.
A pair of Mountaineers raced to top-16 touches in the next event, the 50 breaststroke.
Tate Lanham (31.14) was 14th and Knifong (31.16) was 15th.
Western earned three top-16 spots in the 400 individual medley, led by
Adessa Talbot's 12th-place time of 4:44.69. Just behind in 15th was Linscombe (4:46.95) and in 16th,
Addisyn Murray (4:49.08).
Newcomer
Lily Rosh posted the highest individual finish of the day for Western in the next event, hitting the pad in a time of 2:08.59 in the 200 backstroke, a time that would have been third fastest in the Mountaineers' 2025-26 season.
The day finished with another ninth-place relay, as Jorstad, Hansel, Lanham and
Emma Busta combined to finish in 3:37.10 in the 400 free relay.
