Noble Racing into Semifinals at Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS Dean Noble put down a pair of solid wins Friday in the opening rounds of the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Wrestling Tournament, pushing his way into the semifinal round of the 149-pound bracket Saturday morning at Corteva Coliseum in the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

The No. 6 seed of the tournament, Noble rolled through the first round with a second-period pin of unseeded John Carayiannis of Belmont Abbey (N.C.) College.

Carayiannis registered the first takedown of the match but Noble forged a 9-6 advantage by the end of the period. With the choice to start the second, Noble elected to start in the down position, registered a quick escape then 25 seconds later had a takedown that would become a pin at the 4:01 mark of the match.

In the quarterfinals he squared off against the bracket's No. 3 seed, Kenny Kiser of Gannon (Pa.) University. A returning All-American, Noble's reputation may have preceded him in the match as Kiser was levied three stall warnings in the first period that granted Noble a 2-0 lead entering the second.

With the choice to start the period, Noble again elected to start on the bottom. He earned an escape point then added two more penalty points on Kiser's fourth stalling call. Kiser picked bottom to start the third but never got away from Noble who added the riding time point for a 6-0 shutout win.

Noble now moves into the second of the two semifinals in the bracket, where he will face third-seeded Cael Larson of Augustana (S.D.) University on Saturday morning.

His advancement through the bracket on Friday assures Noble of no lower than a sixth-place finish in the tournament, which will earn a second consecutive All-American honor.

With Noble's wins on Friday Western Colorado finished Day 1 with 10.0 points and in a tie for 25th place in the team standings.
