Durango, Colo.,   The Western Colorado Women's Basketball team defeats Fort Lewis on the road Saturday afternoon by a score of 86-70.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Rachel Cockman and junior Ivey Schmidt gave WCU a quick a 6-2 advantage over FLC. The Skyhawks turned things around, went on a run and stole the lead 10-6. Schmidt and sophomore Alyssa Eckroth tied the game 10-10.
- A turn around jumper and two free throws from graduate Jayde Tschritter put the Mountaineers on top 14-10. FLC caught up grasping a 20-18 edge right before the quarter ended.
- WCU went on a 10-point run to begin the second 28-20. The respective teams traded scores but with five minutes left in the first half junior Chloe Daniels assisted Eckroth to push WCU's advantage 32-25.
- A couple of scoreless possessions followed until Schmidt stopped the drought, knocking down a shot from the charity stripe 33-27. FLC was able to tie the score with 30-seconds left 34-34. A last second jumper by Schmidt allowed WCU to go into the locker room up 36-34.
- The Skyhawks hit the first shot of the second half 36-36. Multiple scores from sophomore Jayda Maves, Cockman, and Tschritter put WCU up ten 48-38. FLC continued to hit shots but so did the Mountaineers.
- Western kept their ten-point advantage throughout the quarter. In the final seconds WCU added to their score going up 61-47.
- Cockman hit a turnaround jumper and junior Natalie Jojola hit a shot behind the arch followed by a layup, moved the Mountaineers lead 68-49. The Skyhawks tried to compete with WCU but couldn't. When the time ran out WCU won 86-70.

COURT NOTESÂ
- Cockman led the Mountaineers with a double-double, putting up 24 points and grabbing 11 boards. She shot 10-15 from the field, 1-2 from three and 3-5 from the free throw line. Schmidt followed with 20 points, going 8-15 from the field and 4-6 from the charity stripe. Maves and Eckroth both recorded 10 points.
- Maves contributed 4 assists. 5 Mountaineers had a steal. Cockman, senior Rachel Novack and Daniels all recorded a block.
- WCU shot 56.7% from the field, 38.9% from three and 73.3% from the free throw line.
- The Mountaineers won the battle of the boards 35-29, recorded a total of 12 assists, 23 bench points, 11 fast break points, 13 points off turnovers and 46 points in the paint.
