Fall Sports Elevate Western

WESTLAKE, Ohio  The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) has released the final standings of the Division II Learfield Director's Cup for fall sports, showing Western Colorado at its highest placement in history, sixth place, heading into the winter sports season.

Mountaineer athletics totaled 203 points during the fall season, less than 90 points from the top spot, held by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), which accumulated 289.5 points.

Western earned 75 points each from the men's and women's cross country programs that placed fifth in DII in their respective championship races in November.

The Mountaineer football team added 53 points from playing into the second round of the DII playoffs, reaching the second round for the second consecutive season and earning a playoff bid for the third straight year and fourth in the past five seasons.

Along with Western's sixth place point total, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference institutions earned the first (UCCS) and third most points (Colorado School of Mines, 275 pts.) in the Fall DII Learfield Director's Cup standings.
