GUNNISON, Colo. With the conclusion of the non-conference portion of its schedule last weekend, Western Colorado soccer now embarks on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference slate with a home match Sunday against the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE MATCH | 2024 Stats
- The Mountaineers enter RMAC action with a 1-4-1 record, the win coming against Eastern New Mexico while the draw came in their most recent outing, a 0-0 tie with 20th-ranked Washburn (Kan.) University.
- Four players have netted goals for Western this season, led by Cianna Thomas' two goals, that second marker being the game-winner in the Eastern New Mexico match.
- Goalkeeper Aubree Orosco played 135 of 180 available minutes over the previous weekend, allowing just one goal while accumulating 13 saves including 8 in her complete-game shutout against Washburn.
- The Mountain Lions at UCCS have had the blueprint for success over Western, winning the last nine meetings between the two programs.
UC COLORADO SPRINGS HEADING INTO THE MATCH | 2024 Stats
- The Mountain Lions bring a 2-2-2 record into the match, but one of their draws was a scoreless battle with then-No. 11 University of Tampa and in their last outing, they were downed, 5-2, by host, No. 17, and 2023 national champion Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.).
- Six different players have found the back of the net for UCCS this fall. Emily Aguilar has three goals to lead the group, while Brooke Pavlich has scored twice. Aguilar's one assist gives her a team high seven points.
- Alexa Malaspina has logged all but 14 minutes in goal for the Mountain Lions. Through six starts in six games she is averaging 1.88 goals against, has a total of 22 saves, and has recorded a pair of complete-game shutouts.
