COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on Monday announced the final standings of the 2023-24 RMAC All-Sports Cup, showing Western Colorado's Mountaineers in fifth place with 640.0 points.
Scoring for the Cup includes points awarded to final standings from four of the five 'core' sports — football, men's soccer, women's volleyball, and men's and women's basketball — with points also added from the three highest point-scoring RMAC finishes in three women's 'wildcard' and three men's 'wildcard' sports.
Western accumulated 178 points in the Core category, with football's second-place conference finish earning 90 points to lead the Mountaineers, with the remainder of the points coming from volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball.
The women's wildcard points (233) came from cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field, with cross country's third-place RMAC meet finish garnering the highest total of 87 points.
The 229 points from the men's wildcard sports were from cross country, wrestling, and outdoor track & field. Cross country also led the way, pulling in 87 points from its third-place finish at the RMAC championship.
The fifth-place standing for Western improves upon the eighth-place finish in 2022-23. It also extends the Mountaineers' streak of top-10 placings to 17 consecutive years.
Colorado Mesa University captured the all-sports title with 918.5 points, ending runner-up Colorado School of Mines' (895.0) string of seven straight titles.
