Cockman, Juelfs Honored with CSC Academic All-District Nods

GUNNISON, Colo.  Western Colorado's Rachel Cockman and Kade Juelfs have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2023-24 Academic All-District NCAA Division II Women's and Men's Basketball Teams, respectively.

The academic all-district honors are the first for both Mountaineers, who on March 13 were named first-team Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic selections as announced by the league office.

The CSC all-district teams recognize the top student-athletes for their combined performances in the classroom and on the court. The CSC Academic All-America program recognizes honorees in four separate divisions – NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA.

Juelfs, an honorable mention All-RMAC player, posts a 3.786 grade-point average in business administration. He led the Western men's basketball team in several categories, including scoring average (13.0), steals (22), free throws made (77) and free throw percentage (.819), and 3-point field goals made (53).

He led the team in minutes played (812) and minutes per game (30.1), while playing in and starting 27 of the team's 28 games.

Juelfs has also been named a CSC Academic All-America finalist, advancing to the national ballot voted on by CSC members. The men's CSC Academic All-America first-, second- and third-teams will be announced on April 17.

Cockman – a second-team All-RMAC player – is an exercise and sport science major with a 3.876 GPA. She finished atop several statistical columns for the Mountaineer women, including scoring (14.8), rebounding (7.3), made field goals (113), free throws (87) and free throws attempted (103).

Her 7.3 rebounds per game ranked ninth in the RMAC, and her scoring average ranked 10th best in the league.

Nominations to the CSC Academic All-America program are submitted by CSC-member athletics communications and sports information directors from across the country.
