GOLDEN, Colo. A slow start to the game by Western Colorado, gave Colorado School of Mines an opportunity to take a nearly double digit lead - a lead it would never give up for the remainder of the game as the Mountaineers fell 80-69.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Western Colorado was able to hang with the Orediggers early on, taking a 9-7 lead after Kylie Krise drained a three-pointer with 7:29 left in the first quarter. Colorado School of Mines retook the lead nearly a minute later and then went on a 13-2 run, giving the Orediggers a 20-11 lead.
- Natalie Sumrok slowed down the run knocking down a three-pointer and layup, trimming the lead to 16-23 – Colorado School of Mines sinking a three-pointer before Sumrok's layup. Before the first quarter ended both teams made two free throws, Rachel Cockman sinking them for Western.
- Trailing 18-25 to start the second quarter, the Mountaineers were able to cut the lead to six -points – 22-28 – on a Cockman layup. Seconds later, the Orediggers offense and defense got going, resulting in them going on a 12-3 run. Down 25-40, Western responded with a 10-2 run of their own, Sumrock and Brooklyn Seymour each pitching in with three-points apiece during the run and Mia Lozoya and Cockman each having two-points.
- With one second left on the clock Colorado School of Mines drew a foul and made both free throws, giving them a 44-35 lead at halftime.
- Coming out of halftime the Mountaineers offense kept pace with the Orediggers - scoring 16-points to Colorado School of Mines 18-points. The Orediggers didn't let Western get close to the lead in the third quarter, holding a 10 plus lead, with the lead getting as large as 17-points with 4:39 left in the quarter. Cockman and Seymour paced Western's offense, scoring seven and six-points and Krise pitching in with three-points of her own.
- After trailing by 10 plus points for the majority of the second half, Hayley Valencia knocked down a free throw with 5:53 left in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 63-72. Colorado School of Mines retook a 10-point lead on their next possession and managed to increase it to as much as 15-points.
- Despite trailing by double digits, the Mountaineers continued to fight, Krise knocking down a three-pointer with 28 seconds left in the quarter, resulting in the final score being 69-80 in favor of the Orediggers.
COURT NOTES
- Western had five players record double digits in scoring, being led by Cockman who had 19-points. Valencia was next in scoring with 14-points, followed by Krise (12-points, career high), Seymour (11-points) and Sumrok (10-points). Krise also had a career night beyond the arc, knocking down four three-pointers.
- On the glass, the Mountaineers were led by Lozoya and Seymour who each had six rebounds.
- The Orediggers capitalized on Western's mistakes, scoring 24-points off turnovers, the Mountaineers only had three-points off turnovers.
- Additionally, similar to the Mountaineers Colorado School of Mines also had five players in double figures in scoring, being led by Jessica Rios and Megan Van de Graaf who had 16-points apiece.
