OAKLAND, Calif. Western Colorado University wrestling went outdoor for its season opener, clearly enjoying the fresh air in taking a 34-8 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win over San Francisco State Friday evening at Granada High School Football Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountaineers got off to a dominating start to the match, scoring two falls and a major decision in the first three weight classes.
- Cody Fatzinger earned the first of Western's two early falls, stopping SF State's Antonio Margiotta just 30 seconds into the second period of the 125-pound match.
- Patrick Allis at 133 went the distance against the Gators' Stefano McKinney, but Allis rolled to a 16-2 major decision to quickly give Western a 10-0 lead in the match.
- That advantage ballooned to 16-0 with the 141 match as Dean Noble pinned Joshua Fuentes Norikiyo at the 2:35 mark of the first period.
- Jason Hanenberg made the match score 19-0 with a decision at 149, however SF State finally got on the scoreboard at 157 with a technical fall to erase the shutout.
- Hunter Mullin at 165 and Cole Hernandez at 174 added to the Western total, with Mullin registering a 20-8 major decision and Hernandez scoring a 12-7 win.
- The Gators got one back at 184 only to surrender a decision to Parker Gasser at 197 and a technical fall at 285 to Sammy deSeriere.
