KEARNEY, Neb. --- The Western Colorado wrestling team went 1-2 at the Midwest Duals on Saturday at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.

The Mountaineers (2-3 overall) defeated Fort Hays State 25-21 in their final dual of the day after falling to Newman (25-21) and third-ranked Central Oklahoma (32-12).

Leading the way for the Mountaineers was Jason Hanenberg as the 12th-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds went 3-0 - including picking up a pair of pins in under 45 seconds (26 seconds and 44 seconds).

In the win over Fort Hays State, the Mountaineers rushed out to a 17-5 lead after a tech fall (18-2) by Patrick Allis at 133 pounds followed by pins from Dean Noble at 141 pounds and Hanenberg at 149. Teh Mountaineers picked up a pair of major decision wins from James Steerman at 165 pounds (12-4) and Cole Gray (13-4) to come away with the wins.

In the loss to Newman to start the day, Hanenberg picked up victory via fall in 26 seconds, Sammy deSeriere won via fall in 3:22, Cole Hernandez won in sudden victory, 9-8 and the Jets forfeited at 133.

A highlight in the Mountaineers' loss to No. 3 Central Oklahoma was Noble defeating eighth-ranked Nate Keim via fall in the opening period.

The Mountaineers return to action 5 p.m. Thursday at Colorado School of Mines.
