LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The Western Colorado wrestling team won eight of 10 matches Friday night at Wilson Complex and defeated New Mexico Highlands 35-6.
The Mountaineers picked up a trio of pins - all in the first round - from
Cole Mortensen at 157 (2:56),
Jimmy LaConte at 174 (2:38) and
Sammy deSeriere at 285 (1:38).
Colby Duncan wrestled at 125 for the Mountaineers and won via tech fall 12 seconds into the second period.
Also picking up wins for the Mountaineers was
Cody Fatzinger at 133 (10-4),
Michael Thelen at 165,
Ruger Wyneken at 184 pounds (5-2) and
Kris Davis at 197 pounds (3-0) making his return from injury.
This was the 19th straight win for WCU over the Cowboys as the Mountaineers move to 22-3 all-time against NMHU.
WCU has a quick turnaround as it takes on CSU-Pueblo 6 p.m. Saturday at Massari Arena.
