GUNNISON, Colo. --- In a matchup of undefeated teams in RMAC play, the Western Colorado wrestling team fell to No. 9 Colorado School of Mines 19-13 on Saturday night at Paul Wright Gym.
 
The dual started at 165 pounds and the Orediggers (7-2 overall, 5-0 RMAC) won the first five weights to take a 16-0 lead into intermission after 285.
 
But the Mountaineers (10-6, 3-1) started a comeback after the break as No. 10 Patrick Allis won via major decision 14-4 to get WCU four points. Cody Fatzinger followed with a sudden-victory win 8-6 at 133 pounds and Jason Hanenberg won 4-3 at 141 pounds as the Mountaineers were suddenly within six at 16-10 with two weight classes to go.
 
At 149 pounds, Giovanni Cassioppi and CSM's Noah Ottum battled into the third period with Ottum taking a 5-4 lead late until a late escaped by Cassioppi tied the match and sent it into overtime. Ottum picked up the win with a takedown in overtime to clinch the dual. Freshman Cole Mortensen picked up three points for the Mountaineers at 157 thanks to a near fall in the final period to win 8-7.
 
The dual could've swung in any direction with six of the 10 matches being decided by three points or less.
 
The Mountaineers return to action Friday as they travel to take on New Mexico Highlands before taking on CSU-Pueblo on Saturday.
