GUNNISON, Colo. --- Registration is open for the Fourth Annual Mountaineer 5k set for 8 a.m. Oct. 5 during homecoming weekend.

Registration on Oct. 5 will be from 7-7:45 a.m. with pre-registration available at GoMountaineers.com at the link on this page. Registration is $25 for adults and $10 for students. All entrants will receive a Mountaineer 5k T-shirt and all fans, students and community members of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to sign up.

For the 2019 edition, the Mountaineer 5k will feature the same course as last year, which is a more performance friendly course. While the event will still start and finish in Mountaineer Bowl, much of the course will comprise of a crushed gravel path. After a brief jaunt down Escalante Drive, participants will turn into the recreational trails adjacent to campus and run out towards the cemetery. This year's course will be an out and back structure primarily routed in the beautiful sagebrush landscape east of campus.

As has become tradition, the race will finish in Mountaineer Bowl under the Western arch with complimentary Gatorade, water and snacks available for the competitors.

Additionally, everyone who registers will receive a complimentary entry to the homecoming football game as Western takes on Chadron State College at 1 p.m. in Mountaineer Bowl.  

All proceeds from the event go to supporting the Mountaineer Athletic Association.
