BURNABY, B.C. --- A tough first half was too much to come back from as the Western Colorado women's basketball team fell to Simon Fraser 77-58 on Saturday night at West Gym.
The Mountaineers (0-2) fell behind 18-10 after the first quarter and 37-16 at the half as they shot just 18.8 percent (3-for-16) from the field and turned it over 14 times in the opening 20 minutes.
WCU wouldn't get closer than 14 in the second half, though it did outscore SFU 42-40 over the final 20 minutes.
Hannah Cooper led WCU with 16 points while
Gabie Doud added 13.
The Mountaineers return to action noon Friday as they play Montana Western on the opening day of the CMU Holiday Inn - Airport Thanksgiving Classic in Grand Junction. They take on University of the Southwest noon Saturday to wrap up play at the event.Â
