Mountaineers face Westminster, Dixie State to wrap up season

GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team wraps up its season this week as the Mountaineers take on Westminster on Friday and Dixie State on Sunday in Grand Junction.

Sunday will be Senior Day for the Mountaineers with the ceremony starting at 9:45 a.m. to honor Andrea Grillo, Delaney West and Megan Wheelock.
 
THE MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEK | 2019 SEASON STATS
The Mountaineers have won three of their last four games heading into the final week of the regular season, including splitting on the road last week with a 2-0 loss at Fort Lewis on Friday and a 1-0 win at Adams State on Sunday. In the victory over the Grizzlies, Megan Wheelock scored on a shot from outside the penalty area in the 26th minute to make it 1-0 and it was enough as WCU a season low in shots (10) and shots on goal (4) to record its second shutout of the season.

On the season, Missa Webb leads the team with three goals while Andrea Grillo has two goals and two assists, Wheelock has two goals (both game winners) and Casey Ober has one goal and one assist. At keeper, Kaeyla Noble has a goals against average of 2.65 and leads the RMAC with 95 saves.

WESTMINSTER HEADING INTO THIS WEEK | 2019 SEASON STATS
The Griffins are on a five-match unbeaten streak - going 4-0-1 since Oct. 13. Last week at home they tied CSU-Pueblo 2-2 on Friday before scoring a season high in goals in defeating New Mexico Highlands 5-0 on Sunday.

Westminster has had balance scoring on the season with 14 players hitting the back of the net and Emma Heyn leading the way with four goals while Aimee Kurfurst has three and four other players with two goals apiece. Brynnae Braun - one of the players with two goals - also has a team-high three assists. At keeper, Hillary Weixler has a 0.67 goals against average and a save percentage of 82.4 percent.

DIXIE STATE HEADING INTO THIS WEEK | 2019 SEASON STATS
The Cowgirls will be searching for their first win heading into this weekend after dropping both games at home last weekend - falling to Regis 4-0 on Friday and to Black Hills State 3-2 on Sunday. In the loss on Sunday to the Yellow Jackets, the Cowgirls traded goals with BHSU in a high-scoring first half with NMHU getting both goals from Janis Martinez (assists from Monique Nevarez and Cheyenne Delgado) to enter the break tied 2-2. But the Yellow Jackets scored a goal in the 63rd minute on a penalty kick to come away with the win.

Dixie State is led by the RMAC's second-leading goal scorer Whitley Johns who has 10 goals on the season to go along with three assists. Kelsey Cook and Zoe Clark have six goals apiece with Cook adding a team-high nine assists while Jill Bennett has four goals. The Trailblazers have seen five different players see time at keeper this season with Adelle Brown getting the majority of the minutes (713 out of 1,432). She has a 0.76 GAA and a save percentage of 83.3 percent.
