WREST | Supernaw wins 100th match at Tracy Borah Duals

GUNNISON, Colo. – Brandon Supernaw earned his 100th career win and helped Western Colorado University to two dual wins at the 29th Tracy Borah Duals on Saturday in Gunnison.
 
Western (8-3, 2-1 RMAC) earned wins over Simon Fraser University and San Francisco State University. The only loss of the day came against Division I opponent, the Air Force Academy.
 
Supernaw entered the weekend needing one match to hit 100 career wins. The senior got the job done in his first match of the day against Simon Fraser's Logan Nelson. Supernaw defeated Nelson by major decision, 16-4.
 
Supernaw improved his season record to 10-0 on Saturday. Along with the major against Nelson, Supernaw earned a 13-3 major decision against San Francisco State's Kurtis Clem and a 7-4 decision over Air Force's Randy Meneweather.
 
Against Simon Fraser in the first dual of the day, the Mountaineers won 7-of-10 bouts, earning bonus points in each of those wins to take a 39-12 win.
 
Jason Hanenberg earned his first of two falls during the Tracy Borah Duals against Simon Fraser. Hanenberg pinned Simon Fraser's Randy MacDonald in the first period before pinning San Francisco State's Josh Villaflor in the second period of the next dual.
 
Trenton Piatt opened the duals with a pin against Simon Fraser's Pritpaul Johal after just 1:36. Piatt ends his career with five pins at the Tracy Borah Duals, one shy of the all-time record.
 
After dropping down from 197 pounds to 184 pounds, Konnor Schmidt earned three wins at the Tracy Borah Duals. Schmidt pinned Simon Fraser's Doug Peyser before earning an 11-7 decision against San Francisco State's Justin Pichedwatana and a 6-2 decision against Air Force's Cody Surratt.
 
Switching weights with Schmidt was Ruger Wyneken, now wrestling at 197 pounds. Wyneken finished the day 2-1, earning a 22-4 technical fall against Simon Fraser's Nolan Badovinac and a 17-9 major decision against San Francisco State's Andrew Herrera. The only loss of the day came against Air Force's Casey Jumps.
 
JD Chenoweth at 149 pounds and Hunter Mullin at 165 pounds each earned forfeits against Simon Fraser.
 
Chenoweth earned a fall in the next dual against San Fransciso State's Isiah Alva, coming from behind in the third period.
 
Mullin finished the day with a 10-7 decision over Air Force's Marcus Amico.
 
Jason Slaughter and Sammy deSeriere each earned one win at the Tracy Borah Duals. Slaughter won by 13-8 decision against San Francisco State's Mason Boutain at 157 pounds, and deSeriere earned a fall over SFSU's Kevin Henry at 285 pounds.
 
The Mountaineers defeated San Francisco State 35-9, winning eight bouts and earning bonus points in five of those matches.
 
Western fell to Air Force in the final dual of the day 27-9.
 
The Mountaineers return to the mat next Friday on the road at Chadron State College.
