GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A second half comeback fell just short for Western State Colorado University Women's Soccer on Friday afternoon in Grand Junction, Colorado. The Mountaineers fell to Humboldt State University 4-2 at Colorado Mesa University's Walker Field.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first half, Western (0-3, 0-0 RMAC) pressed forward in the second. It took 69 minutes, but the Mountaineers found the back of the net.
Aspen Heale scored the first goal of the season for Western, putting the ball past a diving Lumberjack goalkeeper, making it 3-1 with 21 minutes left to play.
The goal was also the first of Heale's career.
Western struck again just one minute later, and the Mountaineer comeback was in full swing.
It was
Megan Wheelock, knocking in her first goal of the season and second of her career.
Wheelock led the team in shots with two. Both shots were on target.
HSU (2-1, 0-0 CCAA) put an end to the comeback in the 73rd minute, putting the match out of reach for the Mountaineers at 4-2.
The Lumberjack's Alex Jenkins scored back-to-back goals in the 11th and 13th minute to open the scoring. Haley Miller added another just before halftime to give HSU at 3-0 lead at the break.

Emilie Eckhart recorded six saves in net. Eckhart currently leads the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in total saves.
The Mountaineers will continue the season on Sunday in Grand Junction when they face California State University East Bay at 2 p.m. on Walker Field. The Pioneers are undefeated this season, defeating Colorado Mesa 1-0 on Friday.
