GUNNISON, Colo. - Western State Colorado University wrestling will end the regular season where they will begin the postseason. The Mountaineers travel to Las Vegas, New Mexico to face New Mexico Highlands University on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. for the final dual of the season. Western returns to Las Vegas for the NCAA Region IV Championships Feb. 23-24.
Western (11-4, 4-1 RMAC), ranked 15th in Division II, has won the last three duals, including Thursday night's dual against Adams State University. The Mountaineers are 2-2 on the road this season.
Against NMHU, Western is 19-3 and have won the last 16 duals. The last time Western lost to the Cowboys came during the 1983-84 season.
NMHUÂ enters the week following a win over No. 5 CSU-Pueblo on Monday night in Las Vegas.Â
The Mountaineers have three wrestlers currently ranked in the top-12 of their respective weight classes.
Trenton Piatt is ranked eighth at 125 pounds, while teammates
Brandon Supernaw at 174 pounds and
Konnor Schmidt at 197 pounds are each ranked fifth.
