GUNNISON, Colo. – After dropping the first two duals at the 28
th Annual Tracy Borah Duals on Saturday, No. 17 Western State Colorado University came back with a vengeance. The Mountaineers destroyed No. 14 Newberry College before defeating No. 11 Simon Fraser University in comeback fashion.

The Mountaineers opened the Tracy Borah Duals against familiar Borah Duals foe, Air Force Academy. The Falcons are the only other school to compete in all 28 Tracy Borah Duals.

Western was unable to down the Division I Falcons.
Colby Duncan at 133 pounds,
Brandon Supernaw at 174 pounds and
Konnor Schmidt at 197 pounds, were the only Mountaineers to earn a win against Air Force. Duncan and Supernaw both won by decision, while Schmidt earned a victory by technical fall.

The Falcons would win all three of their duals on Saturday.

Against No. 16 University of Findlay, Western 125-pounder
Trenton Piatt earned his first of three falls at the Tracy Borah Duals. Piatt's three pins tied for the dual tournament lead on Saturday with Simon Fraser's Cruz Velasquez.

Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, Supernaw and Schmidt were the only other Western wrestlers to record wins against Findlay.

After suffering two defeats to open the duals, Western rebounded in a big way against Newberry. The Mountaineers won 8-of-10 matches, with six wins by bonus points. Western beat the Wolves, 38-7.

Piatt,
Jody Sandoval at 141 points and
Ryan Pellow at 165 pounds each earned a fall against the Wolves. Supernaw and
Ladd Bunker at 184 pounds earned back-to-back technical falls.

Shawn Beiriger at 157 pounds added a major decision for the Mountaineers, while J.D. Chenoweth at 149 pounds and Samuel DeSeriere at 285 pounds each recorded a decision.

Against Simon Fraser, Piatt once again led with a pin in the 125-pound match. The Western lead was short lived as the Clan earned a decision, major decision and pin in the following three bouts. A 13-6 deficit did not deter the Mountaineers as they came storming back with four straight wins.

Jason Slaughter earned a major decision at 157 pounds before Pellow won by forfeit at 165 pounds. Supernaw followed with a win by decision and then
Brendan Gonzales earned a first-round pin at 184 pounds.

Western defeated Simon Fraser 25-21 to end the Tracy Borah Duals.
