WREST | Comeback falls short against No. 5 CSU-Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. – It was a showdown of two top-25 teams on Wednesday night in Pueblo, Colorado. The grapplers of 15th ranked Western State Colorado University were unable to come away with a road upset victory, losing to No. 5 CSU-Pueblo 31-12.
 
Western's Trenton Piatt opened the dual at 125 pounds with a 4-3 decision to put the Mountaineers ahead 3-0.
 
However, CSU-Pueblo would win the next five bouts to take a 19-3 lead.
 
The Mountaineers wouldn't surrender, winning the 174 and 197 pound matches.
 
Brandon Supernaw added six points for Western with a fall at 174 pounds in the third period.
 
At 197 pounds, Konnor Schmidt earned a 4-0 decision, not allowing a single takedown or escape in his bout.
 
The Thunderwolves won both the 184 pound and 285 pound bouts to finish the dual with a 31-12 lead.
 
The Mountaineers continue the season this Saturday, hosting the University of Central Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
