WREST | Western on the road for five duals

GUNNISON, Colo. – Five duals in three days, in two states. That's the schedule for Western State Colorado University wrestling this weekend. The Mountaineers hit the road and face Northeastern Junior College on Thursday before traveling to Kearney, Nebraska for the sixth annual Midwest Duals on Saturday.

Thursday night's dual against Northeastern will begin at 7 p.m. in Sterling, Colorado. The Plainsmen are 0-3 in duals this season, most recently losing to the Colorado School of Mines 33-13. NJC wrestling is in its second season as an intercollegiate program.

On Saturday, Western will face four opponents at the Midwest Duals, including two ranked in the top-25. Duals begin at 9 a.m. (CT), 10:30 a.m. (CT), 12 p.m. (CT) and 1:30 p.m. (CT) for Western.

The 17th ranked Mountaineers will begin the day against Fort Hays State University at 9 a.m. (CT). Western is 25-9 all-time against the Tigers, but lost last season's meeting 15-24. FHSU is currently receiving votes in the Division II Coaches' Poll, but are not ranked.

The third dual of the day at noon (CT) comes against Northern State University. The Wolves are 1-4 this season in duals. It will be only the third time these two teams have met for a dual. The Mountaineers won the two previous meetings.

The final dual at the Midwest Duals for Western comes against No. 22 University of Mary at 1:30 p.m. (CT). The Marauders are 3-1 in duals this season but are coming off a 23-13 loss to No. 20 Minnesota State University – Mankato.
