GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's soccer continues their five match home stand this weekend in Gunnison. The Mountaineers host Colorado Mesa University this Friday and Westminster College on Sunday.

Friday's match against CMU (3-3, 0-1 RMAC) starts at 3 p.m. and is Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day. Sunday's match against WC (4-2, 1-0 RMAC) begins at 1 p.m. and is Youth Soccer Day.

Western (2-2-1, 1-0 RMAC) is riding a two-match winning streak heading into the weekend. Most recently, the Mountaineers defeated Black Hills State University 7-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener last Friday on Gateway Field.

The Mountaineers' offense is led by
Jessica Kresl and
Paige Massey. Each have two goals on the season, which is tied for third best in the conference. Kresl's 3.40 shots per match leads the RMAC.

In net, goalies
Emilie Eckhart and
Katie Simpson-Johnson have been splitting time for Western. Simpson-Johnson's .367 goals against average ranks second best in the conference.

Along with two straight wins, the Mountaineer defense has also recorded shutouts in both those wins.

The Mountaineers are 2-3-2 all-time against CMU and 0-1-1 against Westminster. At home against the Mavericks, Western is 2-1-1. The Mountaineers drew with Westminster 1-1 in their only meeting in Gunnison. Â

CMU enters the weekend after losing their last match to Westminster 3-2 in Salt Lake City.

The Mavericks have three players that have scored a team-high two goals this season. Lauren Thompson has scored twice in four matches played, which ranks tied for second best in the RMAC.

After defeating CMU in their last match, Westminster will face UC-Colorado Springs this Friday.

The Griffins are second in the conference in average goals scored per game at 2.2. While only two players have two goals scored, eight other Griffins have each scored one goal this season.
