ALAMOSA, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball completed the season sweep of Adams State University on Saturday night. The Mountaineer offense propelled Western to an 80-71 win over the rival Grizzlies.

Western's 80 points against ASU (2-20, 1-18 RMAC) is the highest offensive output for the Mountaineers this season. Four Mountaineers scored in double figures and as a team, Western (6-17, 5-14 RMAC) shot over 50 percent from the field.

Western never trailed in the game and their start could not have been better, as they were out to a 10-0 lead just over three minutes into the game. In fact, Western continued to build upon that lead and by the second quarter, the Mountaineers led 26-11.

ASU did outscore the Mountaineers in both the second and third quarters, but even then, Western held to a 58-51 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Western's offense continued to answer every ASU basket and won the quarter 22-20 to win the game 80-71.

While the offense shined, the Mountaineers also dominated on the glass. Western outrebounded the Grizzlies 48-20.

For the game, Western shot 51 percent (25-of-49) from the field and 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from beyond the arc.

Leading the offensive charge was point guard
Brianna Wilber. Wilber scored a game-high 19 points while grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.

Also scoring in double figures for the Mountaineers were players
Mackenzie Tucker,
Sadie Stroup and
Harlie Williams. Tucker added 17 points while Stroup contributed 14 and Williams had 12 points.

Three games remain in the regular season for the Mountaineer women's basketball team. Fortunately, all three will be held within the friendly confines of Paul Wright Gym. Western will play one of those games next Saturday at 5 p.m. against South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
