WSOC | Final home matches this weekend

GUNNISON, Colo. – Four Western State Colorado University women's soccer student-athletes will play their final career home matches this weekend. The Mountaineers host Metro State University Denver on Friday at 3 p.m. and No. 16 Regis University at 1 p.m. on Gateway Field this Sunday.
 
Friday's match against Metro State (7-6, 6-3 RMAC) is the annual Pink Match to raise awareness for cancer. Sunday's match against Regis (10-2-2, 8-0-1 RMAC) will be senior day as four Mountaineers will play their final match on Gateway Field.
 
Western (4-6-2, 3-4-1 RMAC) enters the weekend in a four-way tie for seventh place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with 10 conference points. The top eight teams make the RMAC Tournament.
 
Including this weekend's matches, the Mountaineers have four remaining in the season. With 12 points still on the table, the final four matches of the season will be crucial for Western.
 
Against MSU-Denver, the Mountaineers are 1-5-1 in seven matches. At home, Western is 1-1-1 against the Roadrunners.
 
MSU-Denver is third in the conference standings with 18 points. The Roadrunners have won their last two matches with a 2-1 win over Colorado State University – Pueblo and a 2-0 win over Black Hills State University.
 
Reigna Banks leads the Roadrunners with five goals this season, which ranks fourth best in the conference.
 
On Sunday, Western will look for their first victory over Regis. The Mountaineers have lost the previous five meetings against the Rangers.
 
The 16th ranked Rangers are first in RMAC with 25 points, but lost 0-2 to the Colorado School of Mines in their previous match. Regis will face UC-Colorado Springs the Friday before Sunday's match in Gunnison.
 
Regis' Sofia Garcia leads the team with six goals this season, second most in the conference.
 
The Mountaineers will also honor four graduating seniors, Katie Simpson-Johnson, Jessica Kresl, Francesca Rand, and Paige Massey before Sunday's match.
