GUNNISON, Colo. – The annual Adams State University and Western State Colorado University wrestling dual was one sided on Saturday in Alamosa, Colorado. The Mountaineers dominated the mat, taking a 30-11 dual victory back home to Gunnison, Colorado.

No. 17 Western (7-3, 4-1 RMAC) earned bonus points in 4-of-10 matches, taking forfeit points from the Grizzlies at 157 pounds and 174 pounds.

Ronald Wardleigh (Jr., Plain City, Utah) got the Mountaineers started with a 6-3 decision at 125 pounds. However, ASU (1-8, 0-6 RMAC) took their only lead of the dual after Martin Ramirez, ranked third at 133 pounds earned a technical fall against Western.

That lead was short lived as the Mountaineers won the following six bouts to clinch the dual victory. Earning three-point decisions were Western's 165-pounder
Ian Steen (So., Graham, Washington) and 184-pounder
Brandon Supernaw (RFr., Colorado Springs, Colorado). Along with the two forfeits, Western earned bonus points with a major decision by
Corbin Bennetts (Gr., Buena Vista, Colorado) at 141 pounds and a technical fall by
Tyler Adams (Sr., Rancho Santa Margarita, California) at 149 pounds.

Heading into the final two matches of the night, Western had secured the dual win, 30-5.

ASU would win the 197-pound and heavyweight match by decision to end the dual with a 30-11 deficit.

Western will return to the mat on Saturday, Feb. 13 for the final home dual of the season. The Mountaineers will host Chadron State College at 7 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
