LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Western State Colorado University wrestling ended the dual season on Monday at New Mexico Highlands University. The Mountaineers defeated the Cowboys 28-9, ending the season with a 9-3 overall dual record and record of 6-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Ronald Wardleigh (Jr., Plain City, Utah) got the dual started for No. 13 Western with a first period fall at 125 pounds. Wardleigh entered the week leading Division II in falls with 12.

Western held NMHU (4-7, 2-3 RMAC) to just three victories in the dual. The Cowboys earned decisions at 133 pounds, 149 pounds and 197 pounds.

The Mountaineers earned four wins by major decision.
Corbin Bennetts (Gr., Buena Vista, Colorado) at 141 pounds earned the first major decision of the day for Western. The Mountaineers earned three major decisions in-a-row starting with
Travis Bradford (So., Houston, Texas) at 165 pounds.
Jaden Olearnick (Jr., Eaton, Colorado) followed Bradford's 21-8 major decision with a 9-0 major at 174 pounds.
Brandon Supernaw (RFr., Colorado Springs, Colorado) earned an 11-3 major decision in the following match at 184 pounds.

Earning decisions for the Mountaineers were wrestlers
Ian Steen (So., Graham, Washington) and
Andy Armstrong (RSo., Gypsum, Colorado). Steen earned a 9-7 sudden victory at 157 pounds. Armstrong finished the dual for Western with a 2-0 victory at heavyweight.

The Mountaineers will host the NCAA Division II Region IV Championships on Feb. 26-27 in Gunnison, Colorado.
