GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball outscored the Western New Mexico University Lady Mustangs in two quarters on Friday, but it wasn't enough as the Mountaineers fell 69-59.

WNMU (4-1, 0-0 LSC) got out to a fast start, taking an 18-11 lead in the first quarter. However, Western (0-3, 0-0 RMAC) chipped away at the lead and outscored WNMU 19-18 in the second quarter and 17-16 in the third quarter. The Mountaineers trailed by just five points, 47-52 heading into the fourth quarter.

Harlie Williams rallied Western's offense in the third quarter, scoring 11 of her team high 20 points in the third stanza. Williams shot 6-of-10 (60 percent) from the field, making six shots from beyond the arc. The senior also pulled down seven rebounds.

The Mountaineer comeback would fall short in the fourth quarter as the Lady Mustangs added five more points to their lead to take a 69-59 victory in the first game of the Holiday Inn – Airport Thanksgiving Classic on Colorado Mesa University's campus.

The only other Western player to score in double figures was
Brianna Wilber. Wilber added 12 points in 16 minutes played.

Sydnie Lengyel led the team in rebounding. Lengyel grabbed eight rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.

The Mountaineers will play the final game of the Holiday Inn – Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Bethany College (Kan.) at CMU.
