WSOC | Western travels to Colorado Mines for RMAC Tournament

GUNNISON, Colo. – The last time Western State Colorado University women's soccer and then ranked No. 3 Colorado School of Mines played, the Mountaineers won 3-2 in double overtime. Western will try and conjure some of that same upset magic again when they face No. 6 ranked CSM in Golden, Colorado at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday for the opening round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.
 
Western (6-8-3, 4-6-2 RMAC) enters their first RMAC Tournament as the eighth seed. CSM (16-2, 10-2 RMAC), the 2015 RMAC Tournament Champion, sits atop the bracket as the first seed.
 
The Mountaineers and Orediggers have played more minutes this season than any other teams in the RMAC. Western has played only six few minutes (1646:29) than Colorado Mines (1652:17) despite playing one less match.
 
Western has been involved in seven matches that went into overtime this season, six of which went into double overtime.
 
Jessica Kresl leads the Mountaineers in goals scored with four, and is tied with teammate Andrea Grillo for the team lead in points with eight.
 
The Mountaineers enter the conference tournament after picking up a 2-0 win over New Mexico Highlands University and a 0-0 draw against number two seed Colorado State University – Pueblo.
 
After losing to Western, Colorado Mines has won four straight matches heading into Wednesday's showdown.
 
Emily Garnier leads the Orediggers attack, scoring a team leading seven goals.
 
CSM is 9-0 in home matches this season.
 
The winner of Wednesday's match will face either the fourth seed, Colorado Mesa University or the fifth seed, Metro State University Denver on Friday. The championship match will be played on Sunday.
