GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball got out to an 18-14 lead after the first quarter against Black Hills State University on Friday. The Mountaineers were unable to maintain the lead and fell to the Yellow Jackets 70-46.

Western (4-8, 2-9 RMAC) led by as many as seven points in the first quarter. However, a 28-3 run by BHSU (12-2, 9-1 RMAC) in the second quarter gave the Yellow Jackets a 38-23 lead at the break.

The Mountaineers were held in the game in a large part by sophomore guard
Taylor Long (So., Moreno Valley, California). Long tied for a game high 16 points. BHSU's Keely Bertram also scored 16 points.

The Mountaineers made a run in the third quarter and outscored the Yellow Jackets 14-12 to begin the second half.

Western will try and right the ship tomorrow night against South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. It will be the Hardrockers' first appearance in Paul Wright Gym.
